This free workshop is part of Madlab's exhibition 38° of Separation, Korea : Time and Generation part of Asia Triennial Manchester 2011.

Let's make a physical controller for your images in 4 hours!

- Stop clicking or dragging to navigate your images. Learn how to rapid proto and hack your images and video using physical computing and software. Bring along photos, illustration, and videos. We will hack these contents to create interaction with sound and images with physical computing. About

  • Hack keyboards and other input devices to use them in another way
  • Hack a mouse to change the function
  • Track images with a camera to change positions and movement
  • Use and ardunio or other analogue sensors to collect and control data
  • Use a microphone to use sound as a data source
  • Use various data to manipulate video and image

Isadora is the main programme we will be exploring. Isadora is a graphic programming environment for Macintosh and Windows that provides interactive control over digital media, with special emphasis on the real-time manipulation of digital video.

Who is this for?

  1. Have you wanted to create interactive projects but have no experience?
  2. Have you used MAX MSP, Isadora or Processing and wanted to add an element of physical interaction?
  3. Are you a performance artist wanted to work with digital sensors to control images and video?

What you need to be familiar with

You should be proficient with computers. Any experience with graphic application is helpful. If you are familiar with Max/MSP/Jitter or ISADORA, it's PERFECT!But if you don't know them, it doesn't matter.

Software and costs
